Amarume Hiryu Taiko

Theme : Traditional performing arts Area : Syonai, Shonai

The spark for the 2003 founding of Kids☆Wadaiko was its inclusion as the opening performance for the National Culture Festival. Its purpose is to pass on traditional culture and performing arts through practicing and performing the Amarume Hiryu Taiko. Every Wednesday evening, about 20 elementary school students (grades 1-6) from Shonai-machi and other areas practice taiko drumming under the guidance of a teacher from Hiryu Taiko, an active taiko drumming group in the Amarume area. They perform at many local events, such as the Summer Evening Festival, which is based on the legend of Hiryu, a flying dragon, from the Amarume area of Shonai Town.
