This New Year event, starting in the early Edo period, was offered as a dedication to the Takamatsu Kanon temple to pray for a rich harvest in the local area. Efforts are being made to preserve this event for generations to come through participation in the rice cake pounding festival and teaching about local traditions in the surrounding elementary schools. More information can be received from the preservation society by contacting the Takamatsu Neighborhood Association (Takamatsu Chikukai).
Hadaka directly translates as naked but also means wearing as little as possible. Participants will wear a loin cloth so there is no inappropriate nudity.
