The Oguni Bon Odori dance has its roots in the Nenbuts dance of the Kamakura period (1185-1333). Over time it changed its form, becoming the present-day Oguni Bon Odori dance.
The Oguni Bon Odori Preservation Society was founded in 1974 (49th year of Showa period).
Now the dance is performed at the town’s Bon Dance Festival with singing and accompaniment on traditional musical instruments. The Dance is handed down to students in elementary schools.
