Founded in 1990, "Yoshitsune Benkei Taiko" is a creative Japanese drumming performance that expresses the historical tale of Yoshitsune Benkei, through the light yet powerful sounds of the taiko. The legendary samurai are said to have visited the Semi Onsen in their travels.
The taiko club actively works to teach the taiko dance to elementary school students. 15 practice sessions are held in the two months leading up to the festival, performing on the eve of the annual Semi Festival.
The fruits of the children's taiko practice are presented at the Semi Festival and the Ohori Elementary School Cultural Festival. The Yoshitsune Benkei Taiko fosters confidence and pride for children as members of the community, making them feel more deeply attached to it.
