Uzennokuni Funagata Sabane Taiko Preservation Society

In 1982 (Showa 57), with the benevolence of honorary citizen Mr. Sato Mitsuo, the Uzennokuni Funagata Sabane Taiko Preservation Society was founded. From then on, under the guidance of Mr. Ryu Renzan, the three groups of Wakaayu Taiko (Tominaga Elementary School), Miyoshi Taiko (Nagasawa Elementary School), and Kodakara Taiko (Hohoemi Kindergarten) trained and carried on the musical tradition. With the consolidation of the different elementary schools into Funagata Elementary School, the tradition is now continued by 6th grade students with the Seiryuwakaayu Taiko and Sabane Taiko groups. The groups perform at the annual Funagata Wakaayu Festival and make significant contributions to the town’s tourism events and community building.
