Through the "Firefly Learning" program, students engaged in year-long independent and inquiry-based learning, utilizing a variety of local materials and human resources from the community. Through these activities, students have developed a "love of Misawa," a love for the region, and a desire to contribute to the community.
Some of the participatory activities included school forestry activities and rice planting and harvesting for rice field art, where different varieties of rice plants are used to make pictures in the fields. Also, in the inquiry-based activity "Misawa?", students learned to set and solve problems on their own.
In addition, there were activities to express gratitude to the local community for their kindness.
