Since its opening in 1841 (Tenpo 12) as a kiln for the Tozawa clan, Shinjo Higashiyama-yaki has continued to produce pottery that is popular with everyone, based on traditional pottery making using the Higashiyama clay.
In recent years, their pottery classes have been very popular with everyone from young children to the elderly, and they also offer pottery classes at schools and kindergartens around the area.
