Theme : Traditional performing arts Area : Murayama, Yamanobe

Amusing puppet plays had been a traditional performing art in the area since the end of the Edo period. After World War II, due to the lack of people to carry on the art, the tradition was interrupted for several decades. In 1998 (Heisei 10), as part of its morals class, Yamanobe naka Junior High School worked on the puppet plays and the tradition was revived with the cooperation of local residents. After that, in 2003 (Heisei 15), the organization was founded with the aim of preserving regional culture for future generations, fostering love of their hometown in local children through the preservation and performance of the puppet plays.
The group has received great praise from the local residents; Students practice independently during their general study period and perform at local events, such as the Summer Obon festival, culture festival, and visits to nursing homes.
