This dance is said to have begun in 1980 (Showa 55), when the third graders at the time performed it for their school arts festival. Later, with the cooperation of teachers and parents passionate about passing on the tradition of the Yachi Yakko dance, a group was formally organized in 1984 (Showa 59) and the Chubusho (Central School) Yakko dance was born. At present, it is performed at visits to nursing homes, the Yasaka Shrine’s Cucumber Tenno Festival, and the Yachi Donga Festival. The children have splendidly taken on the mantle of the Yachi Yakko tradition and their growth as future dancers is looked forward to.
