Yaotome Dance Preservation Society

Theme : Traditional performing arts Area : Okitama, Shirataka

The Yaotome dance was started in 1990 (Heisei 2) for the 100 year anniversary of the birth of Arato, and in the following year a preservation society was founded. The current dance was originally established as the Toyosaka Dance by the head office of Shinto shrines, and has been called the Yaotome Dance since 1997 (Heisei 9). It is performed every year on August 15 and 16 as an offering at the Arato elementary school’s regional culture recital for the annual Yaotome Hachiman Shrine festival. Now, 5th and 6th graders of the local Arato Elementary School practice it as part of the Arato section community center’s event.
